Walleye are biting, bow season for deer opens Thursday

Posted by Peter Wood On September - 28 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Walleye are biting up on Lake Dalrymple at dusk.

Thought I would troll for a few walleye on Lake Dalrymple before deer season opens. After all a  tasty meal of walleye fillets is almost as good as venison chops!

Trolling with any deep diver with a narrow body at 2.5 mph was the ticket. The lake was calm and little wind so that may change with today’s cold front blowing through. I stuck to about the 16-18 foot depth and had a few hits.

Kept one for the fry pan as planned and just enjoyed the evening on the lake with Sharron as we cruised on of many shoals. No bugs and an awesome sunset topped off this fishing trip.

This rain , winds and cold front passing through today might kick start the deer into moving more this week. I plan on being out with my BowTech sitting over one of  my Backyard Wildlife food plots. Good luck to you deer hunters.     Peters-Dalrymple-Walleye

Just don’t forget the fish are biting when your not hunting, isn’t fall just great!

Going Outdoors? Check Out the Insect Defend Patch

Posted by Peter Wood On May - 29 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

If your outdoor as much as me you know the value of avoiding those pesky biting bugs!

You know the sound,

BBBBBBbZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

There’s NO Need to GO Insane as you sprint to your vehicle or home.

If your hands are swatting and your arms are flailing your loosing valuable time fishing, hunting or ATVing!

Worse,,,, you likely alerted that Gobbler headed your way after trying to sit still for the last two hours!
I know the spring Gobbler season is all but over but I have been wearing these Insect Defend Patches with good success.

I still wore my camo with long sleeves and gloves but the squeeters just seemed to move on and not “bug” me as much.

I still sprayed some “deet” on my outer clothes as an additional layer against biting bugs.
I even had my Therma-cell running when the hoard of bugs attacked at the first sound of a gobble!

All in all my “bug defense system” worked extremely well. Start with my Bug Bite Patch, some deet on the clothing and my Thermo-cell at the ready for those deep wood or swamp conditions.

At the beach using just the patch works fine as its waterprooof.

These Insect Defend Patches are :  All Natural – NO DEET – Mosquito Bite Deterrent

Only ingredient 75mg Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)

Apply directly on your skin min. 2 hours before exposure to Mosquitoes

B1 discreetly comes out through your pores as you perspire

Mosquitoes don’t like how you taste

The more you perspire…. the better it works !

 Lasts for 36 Hours

Leave it on!   24 hr timed release formula with a 12 hour residual effect

Safe for Children as young as 1 year old

Simply place in middle of back to avoid choking risk

Patch can be worn while swimming or bathing

I put  patch on today a 4am for turkey hunting. (never got bit)

I cut the lawn about 3pm with just shorts and a tee and never got bit once!

Elliot Lake’s ATV,hunting and angling opportunities

Posted by Peter Wood On November - 16 - 20081 COMMENT

This fall I spent a few days in Elliot Lake with outdoor guide Marty Descoteaux of Elliot Lake Outfitters while doing a destination article for Ontario Out of Doors magazine.

We fished, hunted and travelled by ATV over three days in absolutely splendid fall weather, The leaves were brilliant, this time the bugs didn’t bite but the fish sure were biting.

Northern grouse were easy pickings if you knew where to look. Marty did!

Hot tasty meals outdoors in minutes

Posted by Peter Wood On November - 15 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

If you spend a lot of time outdoors hunting, fishing or ATVing like I do I know you’ll appreciate a hot tasty meal when you finaly take that break from the action.

Having eaten cold sandwiches and outdoor trail mix just doesn’t cut it when you need a boost of energy but still crave that luxury of a full course meal. Especially when its cold out!

In the time it takes to build a small fire Read the rest of this entry »
