The  annual Dundas Valley Longbeards Conservation dinner took place Friday April 3rd at the Copetown Woods Country Club.  With 154 people in attendence our dinner was a huge success. Without dedicated DVL members and sponsors committed to local conservation this would not be possible.

There were 157 people in attendance for our conservation dinner. We raised
about $17,000 gross. All proceeds will be spent on local conservation
projects.

Past projects over the last few years consisted of;

Funding the construction, installation and maintaining over 150 Wood Duck
Nesting boxes.
A bursary provided to student attending Sir Sanford Fleming College.
Sponsored wild turkey release as well as funded and planted suitable turkey
habitat in Dundas Valley.
Hosted a successful Woman & Outdoors weekend in Ancaster.
Funded Pheasants Forever HHH Chapter in the release of 500 Ring-Necked
pheasants.
Funded the construction and installation of 200 bluebird nesting boxes.
Sponsored an episode with the RippleOutdoors.com Podcast Show to promote and
highlight the DVL club.
We are a major contributor to Zone J of the OFAH programs for children.
Gold contributor to Youth Outdoors Day held at Luthor Marsh.
Raised significant funds for the National Wild Turkey Federation in past
years.
Donated funds to the McMaster Hospital Children’s Fund.
The Taquanyah Project, by Habitat Haldimand to house a memorial to Bruce
Duncan was funded solely by the DVL club.

Presently our club consists of 20 volunteer members and were always looking
for other outstanding people to join us in our conservation efforts. No dues
or experience required, just a love for the outdoors.

Attendance was down about 20%, partly due to economy. We also went with a
smaller hall from 200 to 180 capacity. Perhaps a slight ticket price
increase to have sit down served meal instead of a buffet dinner reduced
attendance.

All in all everyone seemed to have a great time with twenty sponsors
donating some great prizes to auction off towards conservation. There was
also about twenty-five business donating resources, time and items to our
event.

I don’t think we could have gotten another table full of guests in the room
with all the prizes and auction items on display.
Robert Beers again provided his auctioneering talents, the staff at Copetown
Woods was superb as was the roast beef and chicken dinners.

All the DVL members ensured things ran smoothly with sponsors and guests
enjoying a great evening. The OFAH framed prints were a big hit and sold out
quickly.
