Members of the public are invited to attend one of the Ministry of Natural Resources’ open houses to comment on Ontario’s moose tag draw system. The draw allocates moose tags to resident hunters. It is designed to give the greatest number of hunters an opportunity to hunt or share an adult moose while maintaining sustainable moose populations. Through the open house, the Ontario government is encouraging people to discuss how the draw system can be improved. Biologists will be on hand to lead discussions and answer questions.
Each open house in Southwestern Ontario will take place from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. with presentations starting at 7:00 p.m. followed by questions.

In addition to the open houses throughout the province, visitors to the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show from Wednesday, March 18, to Sunday, March 22, can obtain information from the MNR booth at #4901 in the Heritage Court and take part in the presentations and questions from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. daily in the Hunting Hall. The ministry launched a review of the program in 2008 to ensure Ontario’s moose continue to be managed in a responsible and sustainable way.
Since 1983, Ontario’s selective-harvest system has increased the moose population to about 109,000 from about 80,000. Viewing and hunting moose generates about $100 million in economic activity within Ontario each year.
