Kudos to Grimsby’s Mayor and town council
Kudos go out to Grimsby’s Mayor Bob Bentley and his dedicated council and staff members for last night’s town hall meeting with the public.
A packed house of Grimsby residents and regional visitors listened intently ascouncil discussed the 1976 bylaw concerning hunting in the rural areas of Grimsby.
Greg Farrant of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) presented council with facts on how safe hunting is in Ontario.
Coyote Watch Canda’s Lesley Sampson & James Brown gave a detailed background of coyotes in the area.
Concerned Grimsby citizens also gave short presentations on concerns with increasing populations of coyotes and wild dogs in the region.
Local Ministry of Natural Resources constable Aaron Barbour informed council members about hunting requirements and legalities concerning discharge of firearms in MNR zone 88.
The 1976 bylaw did not allow any hunting and the town wanted to improve the outdated bylaw to conform with provincial standards.
Input from local hunters, conservation groups, sports clubs and provincial officials will help decide in possibly creating an up to-date and workable bylaw where hunting is concerned in this area to address an ever increasing deer population and predation problems of coyotes and wild dogs.Â
