Canadian Ice Fishing Championship (CIFC)  February 23, 24, 2013 at Jackson’s Point, Ontario

The Canadian Ice Fishing Championship (CIFC), the  Premier Catch Photo Release Winter Tournament, is preparing for the 19th Annual championship event, to be held on Lake Simcoe at Jackson’s Point, Ontario located on the south shore just over an hour’s drive from Toronto.

The competitors are going to be pleased with this year’s arrangements as the competition site and the hall for meetings and the awards dinner are conveniently within town and just 4 km apart with free parking at both locations. The immediate area offers shops, places to stay, and a variety of restaurants, fast food and local pubs, some with live entertainment.

The competition format consists of teams of two persons, fishing one day of deep water for ‘big fish’ and a second day on shallower fishing grounds for perch. Lake Simcoe is recognized as one of the finest yellow perch fisheries in North America and a lot of that action starts from Jackson’s Point. This is a live release tournament, following the principle of Catch – Photo – Release.

Competitors can expect more rewards this year, with additional prizes waiting for special team recognitions to keep it interesting, even if teams didn’t make it into the top 15 places that will be receiving cash payouts. Early Bird Draw prizes have been extended this year so not just one team is the winner – 26 Early Bird prizes will be given away and the sooner teams register for the CIFC, the more chances they get. In all, with a full field of 125 teams there are over 300 prizes to be given out.

Master of Ceremonies will be Spiro Agouros of On Tour Productions, a professional angler who travels North America extensively but calls Ontario home.

The meeting hall refreshments and the awards night dinner are being served by Give a Miracle a Chance. Proceeds from food and beverage will go towards their projects to support children with special needs, especially those with cerebral palsy.

CIFC is still receiving inquiries from businesses and product representatives interested in being involved to support and sponsor the event.
