MNR NEWS Feb 25 2015 – Deer Poacher Fined
A Smiths Falls man has been fined a total of $3,000 for hunting offences.
Brandon Hart pleaded guilty and was fined $1,500 for trespassing to hunt and $1,500 for hunting white-tailed deer at night. He is not allowed to hunt in Ontario for one year.
Court heard that on December 6, 2013, Hart shot and killed a buck deer on private property on which he did not have permission to hunt, along Lally Road in Tay Valley Township. The landowner heard the gunshot after legal shooting time and suspected illegal hunting. The landowner then attempted to confront the hunter, who fled the scene. The deer was left behind and subsequently spoiled. Conservation officers conducted an investigation on December 7, 2013, and collected evidence implicating Hart.
Justice of the Peace Jacques Desjardins heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Perth, on February 19, 2015.
