The Hamilton Harbour catch and release Fishing Derby is a family friendly event that gives the citizens of Hamilton and the surrounding area a chance to participate in the sport of fishing.

The derby is an effort to connect families to the waterfront through activities, demonstrations and educational programs.

There will be one thousand free fishing rods available for those that do not have their own equipment in order to encourage participation.

All participants under the age of twelve will receive a prize simply for attending. Also, great prizes will be awarded to the winners that catch the longest fish in each category and to the participants that catch the most fish.

The Hamilton Harbour Queen will be offering tours at a reduced rate. There will be tours running from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm and 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Prices for adults are $2.00 and children (12 & under) are $1.00.

There will also be several boats available to take kids out on mini fishing trips. This gives children the chance to experience the sport of fishing from the water.

There will be a number of educational booths set up between the Williams Coffee Pub and the sun shelter. These booths are designed to educate children about water safety, environmental issues and fishing techniques.
