MNR – News – $1,000 Fine for illegal Wild Turkey Hunting Offences
An Amherstview man has been fined a total of $1,000 for offences related to hunting a wild turkey without a licence.
Brian W. Minifie was convicted and fined $250 under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act for hunting wild turkey without a licence, $500 for making false statements to a conservation officer and $250 for possessing illegally hunted wildlife.
The court heard that Minifie killed a wild turkey on April 25, 2010. When checked by a conservation officer, he made a false statement about losing his licence. Then, in an apparent attempt to avoid prosecution for these offences, Minifie made an additional false statement in an application to obtain a duplicate licence.
Justice of the Peace Doleman heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Napanee, on June 15, 2011.
