MNR News Release – Trent Hills Man Fined For Illegal Hunting
A Trent Hills man has been fined a total of $1,250 for several hunting-related offences.
Mark Christopher Blight pleaded guilty to the charges and was fined for unlawfully hunting an antlerless deer and unlawfully attaching a seal to an antlerless deer. He was given a suspended sentence for unlawfully hunting a furbearing mammal.
The court heard that during the November 2012 shotgun deer season, Blight shot and killed a doe white-tailed deer while shooting at a buck. Despite not having the proper licence for an antlerless deer, he placed his game seal on the doe and took it to his residence, where he skinned the deer and disposed of the head. When conservation officers inspected the deer carcass, Blight admitted that he had unlawfully shot and placed his seal on the doe. During the investigation the officers also determined that Blight had shot and killed a coyote without a small game licence.
Justice of the Peace Allison Forestall heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Campbellford, on January 24, 2013.
