Ontario OUT OF Doors writers enjoyed a hunting & fishing weekend at Elmhirst Resort on Rice Lake.
Ontario OUT of DOORS Editor-In-Chief John Kerr along with Department Editors, Field Editors and Contributors enjoyed a writer’s rendezvous at the Elmhirst Resort on Rice Lake.
Saturday morning nine writers hunted pheasants at the Pinegrove Pheasant Farm in nearby Castleton. Owners Lenore and Darren Partridge provided the dogs and handlers for a great morning hunt. We all shot birds over three enthusiastic dogs guided by their handlers.
I know “Lady” our young Black Lab owned by owner Darren worked her tail off!
Fellow writer Jim Poling and myself were hoping to score a double for OOD Photographer Jim Markou but the birds always seem to fly in his direction.
Other OOD writers left the resort at 6am to participate in goose hunt on nearby fields. They knocked down a few geese and also enjoyed the fall colours.
The remaining OOD writers and staff fished Rice Lake and nearby rivers for carp, small mouth and walleye.
The accommodations and food at Elmhirst certainly spoiled us compared to hunting and fishing camps.
Saturday afternoon everyone toured the O.F.A.H./ Mario Cortellucci Heritage Hunting and Fishing Center in Peterborough.
Later that evening special guests from O.F.H.A. shared an awesome dinner with us at the resort. The O.F.A.H. continues to support hunting and fishing in Ontario as new owners of the Ontario OUT OF DOORS Magazine.
Sunday morning everyone was out fishing followed by a great lunch and wrap up of the weekend. Thanks to the Elmhirst Staff for an enjoyable stay.
My personal thanks to John and Ray for all their hard work and effort supporting the OOD writers, photographers and staff in participating in a great fall weekend.
Sounds awesome! Send me an invite sometime…lol
What a wonderful write up…..
Thank you mentioning our farm.
