URGENT MESSAGE TO ALL OFAH MEMBERS!

On November 14, 2013 the Province of Ontario announced a two year pilot project for the return of a SPRING BEAR HUNT in four areas in northern Ontario.

OFAH members have answered the call to respond to the posting on the Environmental Bill of Rights, and for that we thank you.

Unfortunately, the same groups of animal right extremists responsible for the cancellation of the spring bear hunt in 1999 are flooding MPP’s offices with 1,000’S of form letters demanding that the bear hunt pilot project be cancelled. If we do not fight back NOW, they will succeed again and the best chance of returning a full spring bear hunt will be lost.

It is important that the Premier, Minister of Natural Resources and all MPPs hear from you IMMEDIATELY. Please fill in your name below and click the “Send my Letter” button to let the Ontario government know that you support the spring bear hunt.

Thank you for your continued support.

Honourable Kathleen O. Wynne
Premier of Ontario
Room 281
Main Legislative Building
Toronto, Ontario

Dear Premier:

On November 14, 2013, your government made the right decision for the people of northern Ontario by announcing the return of a two-year spring bear hunt to address nuisance bear activity in specific areas.

Fifteen years ago, the Harris government ignored the scientific evidence and the principles of sustainable wildlife management when they abandoned the spring bear hunt. They ignored the fact that the spring bear hunt assisted with the maintenance of bear densities at levels that minimized dangerous encounters with people. The spring hunt also reduced male bear densities, lessening cannibalism and aggression on other bears, moose calves and deer fawns. The spring hunt also generated over $40 million annually and helped to sustain hundreds of local businesses and associated jobs.

Animal rights extremists are flooding MPP’s offices with emotional form letters urging you to back away from a decision that can be justified on logic and science. Municipal leaders, police services and senior education officials from all across northern Ontario have responded positively to the proposed pilot project and I respectfully ask you to stay the course and move forward in the interests of northern residents and their public safety.
